Melodium 42B ribbon microphone
Melodium 42B – classic French ribbon microphone.
This microphone has been fully refurbished with a new ribbon, powerful magnets, XLR socket on the rear and an Xaudia vintage style 300 ohm output transformer installed, which means that it has a strong clear output and good signal to noise performance. The filter switch has been bypassed and removed, and the mic has the full-range output without any bass cut.
The mic also has been refinished, and new grill cloths fitted. The mic has our ‘British mod’, which means that fine stainless steel mesh has been fitted around the ribbons, as was done on the ‘Made in England’ RCA 44BX mics. The mounting hardware are brass replica parts.
Please see the photos below for cosmetic condition. Like a lot of these microphones, the grills have seem some action over the years.
In summary, this Melodium 42B has been fully serviced and upgraded to make this an excellent and usable plug-and-play recording microphone. If you are looking for an all original 42B then this is not the one. But if you need a long-ribbon workhorse for your studio…. here it is.
