STC 4038 Ribbon microphone
A studio and broadcasting classic, that needs no introduction, but I’ll do one anyway…
This is an STC badged 4038 ribbon microphone. These were developed and patented for the BBC and remain in production today (by Coles Electroacoustics), essentially unchanged.
This example is a 30 ohm model which is all original except for having been cleaned and a new ribbon fitted. There is some cosmetic wear and the paint has been rubbed through and touched up in places. It looks like a 1960s mic, which is what it is. This is supplied with a new Coles stand adapter.
Some of these are listed on eBay and reverb at around £1300 to £1400 which seems a bit optimistic/daft, as you can get a new Coles for about £1k.
If you wish, I can convert this to 300 ohm output for an additional £60 using a new Coles transformer. Please ask if you want that option.
Tested, serviced, sounding good and working perfectly.
